  1. Benefits: What are the Intelligent Flatplan's key business benefits?

The Intelligent Flatplan was designed to help publishers increase their productivity, profitability, product quality and employee morale by:

    • Smoothing communications
    • Introducing automation
    • Improving process control

Communications: Publishing is a team effort so any breakdown in communications can quickly result in costly and demoralising mistakes and delays. The Intelligent Flatplan helps overcome such problems by providing a clear, visual, real-time issue status, thus helping the team spot problems early and refocus its effort.

Automation: Publication management involves many repetitive, low-value, mundane tasks which, if overlooked, can result in costly mistakes. For example, the Intelligent Flatplan can ensure repeat items, (such as the content page, diary column, leader etc) are automatically included on all new flatplans.

Process control: The Intelligent Flatplan can automatically prevent team members accidentally (or deliberately) introducing mistakes. As an example, an advertisement manager can lock an advertisement's position. This prevents accidental repositioning, a common cause of advertisers demanding refunds.

  2. Security: What safeguards does the Intelligent Flatplan employ to secure my data?

Naturally, security is top of Purelab's priority list. To demonstrate the Intelligent Flatplan's security credentials, Purelabs has commissioned one of the world's leading web application penetration and security testing organisations, Plynt, to certificate the application prior to its global launch. Plynt counts Reuters Group, HSBC Group and Royal Sun Alliance among its customers.

During the week-long process, security specialists around the world will attempt to uncover any unexpected technical, logical and business vulnerabilities. Following the successful test, the Intelligent Flatplan will receive its security certificate which customers can view online.

  3. Reliability: Does the Intelligent Flatplan really offer me 24/7 reliability?

As an internet-based application the Intelligent Flatplan was conceived as an always-on, access anywhere solution. In fact, one of the Intelligent Flatplan's first customers was a 24-hour operation with offices nearly 10,000km apart in the UK and Thailand.

To deliver this level of reliability, Purelabs chose Rackspace for its managed hosting. Rackspace lists Renault, confused.com and the British Army among its customers. The company's customer support philosophy, called Fanatical Support, features guaranteed 100% network and infrastructure uptime.

  4. Cost: Exactly how much does the Intelligent Flatplan cost to use?

Simple, one credit per page, with credits costing £0.35p. This clear, pay-as-you-go pricing structure ensures costs are automatically aligned with each customer's cash flow, whether they publish a daily newspaper or annual sales catalogue.

Customers can pre-configure multiple flatplans free of charge. Then, when a flatplan is activated for use, credits are deducted, one per page. Pages can be added to an existing flatplan, one credit per page.

To illustrate the cost per user, imagine a typical monthly business-to-business magazine averaging 60-pages and managed by a ten-person team including: a publisher, editors, advertisement manager, classified sales executives, page designer, production manager, administrator and printer. All the benefits of the Intelligent Flatplan are available for just £2.10 per user, per issue.

Credits can be purchased via a secure Worldpay payment facility which accepts major credit and debit cards. Single and monthly invoice payment methods are also available.

  5. Bespoke development: What if I require bespoke features for my publishing business?

Based on 20-years publishing experience, the Intelligent Flatplan's features and inherent flexibility meets most publishing requirements. However, all publishers are slightly different, with some requiring bespoke features.

For example, one magazine publisher reviewing the Intelligent Flatplan was keen to replace the standard advertisement data entry panel with an electronic replica of its existing paper booking form.

Purelab's development team is available for bespoke projects. New features can be quickly added (typically within weeks) for less than most customers first imagine. Joint development projects can further reduce costs, provided the proposed feature can be included in a future release of the Intelligent Flatplan.

The development team is also available for larger, stand alone projects not related to the Intelligent Flatplan.

  6. IT requirements: Will I need new software or hardware to run the Intelligent Flatplan?

As a hosted application the Intelligent Flatplan is accessed using standard internet browsers on both PCs and Macs. Provided customers have an internet connected computer running Flash Player 7+ and either Internet Explorer 5+, Netscape 7+ or Firefox, they are unlikely to need to upgrade their software or hardware.

In fact, the Intelligent Flatplan was originally conceived as an internet application to overcome the difficulty of sharing information across PC and Mac networks, a particular problem in publishing environments.

One benefit of the Intelligent Flatplan's 30-day free trial is that customers can test the application with their fonte current IT systems before buying credits.
